I have heard from Dr. Sandra Kudrak Mitchell who checked into this that G. Bion Richards, Merial Senior Sales Development Representative says the difficulty is just a temporary one one in getting product to the warehouses and should be settled within two weeks. The problem still remains that mergers have happened and product lines always are re-evaluated in such situations. In that case it becomes possible that those who are trying to avoid duplications can miss noting that a product needed for one species. Merial does need to be aware that IMRAB 3 and Purevax Ferret CDV vaccine both serve a market which is lacking in options (or low in options for the second). We can't afford to have only one vaccine which may disappear. There is a need to make sure not only that IMRAB 3 remains as a product but also that there is work done to have an officially accepted alternative. It is important that any groups with an interest in keeping ferrets safe and available politely encourage Merial to continue this product and that efforts be made to have an alternative vaccine. Many thanks to Dr. Mitchell for following her contacts to someone high enough to check on this! Sukie (not a vet) [P.S] ADDITION: In a follow-up note Dr. Mitchell says that IMRAB 3 is probably one of the best selling rabies vaccines in the world so is unlikely to be lost soon , but thatshe does not know if the Purevax CDV vaccine has high enough sales for people to feel as secure about that product. --SDC Recommended ferret health links: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/ http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html http://www.miamiferret.org/ http://www.ferrethealth.msu.edu/ http://www.ferretcongress.org/ http://www.trifl.org/index.shtml http://homepage.mac.com/sukie/sukiesferretlinks.html all ferret topics: http://listserv.ferretmailinglist.org/archives/ferret-search.html "All hail the procrastinators for they shall rule the world tomorrow."
