First off, Deslorelin (and Lupron) work in very different ways than melatonin. Melatonin does not conflict with either of them, and frequently complements them. So there's no reason for abruptly stopping the melatonin. Secondly, both Lupron and the Deslorelin implant take some time to become effective. It's not uncommon to take several weeks to see effects on them, so don't give up yet. Thirdly, please check that your ferret got the right kind of deslorelin. There is one implant with the brand name Ovuplant which comes in 2.1mg doses. This has been proven in studies to NOT be effective for ferrets. The one which HAS been proven effective is trademarked Suprelorin, and comes in 4.7mg implants. The Ovuplant is MUCH easier to obtain in the US, but does not help adrenal disease in ferrets. On the cyst, if it were mine, I'd take it to a good ferret vet to make sure that it's only a cyst and to make sure it didn't get infected. Kevin Farlee [Posted in FML 6624]
