We have a male ferret who has Insulinoma and Adreanal disease he is about 7 years old. He was just on Prednisolone .6 ml (1mg / ml) twice a day. He was weak and showing hind leg weakness. We took him to the vet and his glucose was 58 (this was two hours after his meds). We added diazoxide .4ml (50mg /ml) twice a day. He showed increased alertness, his movements increased in speed, less hind leg weakness, but more ataxia. After two weeks we went back for another glucose check which was 49. Over the last 7 months he has gone from 3 pounds to 2 pounds in his weight although I see him eating quite often. After the last glucose check we went up from .6ml of his Prednisolone to .8 mls twice a day. At first he seemed to do some better but yesterday he was looking weaker than he use to. Our vet is not open until Monday (and we will be taking him back tomorrow). My question is due to his age he is not a surgical candadate, is there anything else we can do for him? How much higher on these meds can we go? We're going to start him on duck soup today to see if that will help. This ferret isn't our ferret we are babysitting him while his parents are moving (long move had to move out of their old place before they could move into the new place and their temporary logings don't allow ferrets) Thanks Mike [Posted in FML 6581]
