Things had been quiet at the Bridge, so No. 421 took some time off to get his cabin ready for winter. He was fixing the spare room for his currier Oliver. Oliver spent more time with No. 421 than he did at his mound, so No. 421 decided to let Oliver move in. He had just put a "For Sale" sign on Oliver's mound last night. No. 421 was going to finished the door and take a nap. Dawn was just breaking when there was a flutter of wings and Bluebird settled down on the porch railing. "No. 421" she chirped, there is a fuzzy at de Bridge, and Oliver is no where to be seen." No. 421 put on his coat and hurried up to the Bridge. He just had to dosomething about that boy. "Hello, who goes there," he called. A cute little sable girl with hair the color of ice chips, looked up. She was so delicate and she was looking around for someone. "Hello there," No, 421 said. "Who are you and how did you get here?" "My name is Rogue and I was looking for my big brudder Kodo," she said in a very small voice. "I be scared and I do not know where I am. When I went to sleep, he was home with Momma Lisa. Now I is here, and all alone." No. 421 took her tiny paw in his big warm one and led her over to the bench at the side of the bridge. The two ferrets just sat down when Oliver came running over the Bridge with a ferret boy who was carrying some suitcases. "Hey No. 421, I'm sorry I'se late," Oliver said. "Here is a ticket for this boy, named Bandit. I had answered the call to come to the gate; the Receiving Angel had gone up to the Big House for a minute and Skye gave me these two tickets. North Wind was chasing Gentle Breeze, and she blew by me so fast I lost one of the tickets. This feller and me looked for the ticket. We finally found it, now we need to find Miss Rogue, but I'se in a dither, I don't know where to look." No. 421 smiled at Oliver and squeezed Miss Rogue's paw. "Oliver, I think I can help you," No. 421 said. "Miss Rogue is here with me so bring Bandit over." Miss Rogue had been crying and was standing in a patch of For-Get-Me- Nots by the bench. One flower grew up where each silver tear had dropped. Miss Rogue looked up and stopped crying. "Bandit, is that you?" she cried. "Oh Bandit, I thought I was going to so alone. Thank you for coming with me. I'm so little, and everything is easier with you here." The two ferrets hugged and dooked and hugged some more. "Well, now that's settled, let's all go down to Bakin' Bertha's for breakfast," No. 421 said. Bluebird hopped on No. 421's shoulder and asked him to save her a cake. "I'll take these two tickets back to the Receiving Angel and fly right back here," she chirped. And with that, she took the tickets in her beak and flew away. Oliver and No. 421 sat down while Bandit and Miss Rogue talked about Momma Lisa. Fang took their order and Buddy, who worked in the kitchen part time, put the raisin cakes on the tray. "Could we send a message back to our Momma and tell her we are here together and will wait for her to come?" Miss Rogue asked. "Sure," No. 421 said. "Shooting Star is over there having his breakfast, he'll take a message to her tonight saying you have arrived and Bandit is here with you. In fact, hey Oliver, are you packed for the move to my cabin yet?" "Almost, I just need to carry everything up," Oliver said. "What am I going to do with my bed and dishes?" "Well, these two new comers don't have a place to live yet, so let's give them your mound." Oliver smiled from whisker to whisker. "Great, they can help me move my things, and then they can move into my mound, mostly furnished," Oliver said. "This is great." After breakfast, the four ferrets carried Oliver's boxes up to No. 421's cabin. Miss Rogue and Bandit set about fixing the mound the way they wanted it, and Shooting Star put the message on one point until tonight. No. 421 wrote in his logbook, Oliver is here with me, unpacking his belongings, so no more lost tickets, forgotten calls, or late greetings. Miss Rogue and Bandit have moved into a beautiful, furnished mound and Miss Rogue is already making up the hammies for tonight. Oliver found the ticket he thought he had lost, and all records are complete. Mission was accomplished, with help from Bluebird. [Posted in FML 6477]
