I wholeheartedly agree about reporting your vaccination reactions. As a human who has been permanently injured by a severe brain-stem reaction to a flu vaccination resulting in acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, which has drastically changed my life, it is of vital importance to track reactions to vaccinations. Educating pet owners and vets is equally as important. I, for one, tell everyone about my reaction to warn them because the information on the authorization form is 100% worthless. I work in a very large hospital system and within the last three years, one of the physicians was paralyzed from the waist down with his reaction to the flu shot, resulting in the same diagnosis. After massive doses of steroids and rehab, he is walking again. While this is only two people in three years out of about 27,000 vaccinations given, when it happens to you, it doesn't matter. When it happens to your pet, it doesn't matter. The federal govt. has a site, VAERS, that tracks this information in humans and I do not know where this is tracked for animals or even if it is, but if it isn't, it most definitely needs to be. The VAERS site makes for some extremely interesting reading. To all the humans and pet owners, please be very careful with vaccinations. [JO] [Posted in FML 6361]
