I was contacted yesterday by a man named Jason whom works for Quest recycling. Which is a sub of WalMarts. They have a program for the expired (still has 2 weeks left on it) meat. That a shelter can PU if they are on their list do do so. The shelter will PU 4 times a week, a barrel of meats. For the sum of $100-150. Now for those of us that feed BARF, this sounds ok. Save alot of money. Just wrap & put in the freezer. Has anyone else been contacted yet? On the subject of PTS . I have been on the side where I paid $175.00 to do one in the middle of the night. It did bring peace to me to end his suffering. Done this on more than one occasion. Because I have used one of my vets for so many years, he doesn't charge me a thing if done during office hours. The other vet will charge for the meds. If after hours, he charges $175.00 just to come, then the price of the meds. Once I had a vet whom belived that all shelters should have the mercy shot for their use in the event of an emergency, where no vet could be reached. Like on holidays. That we knew how to do it, (properly) ourselves. Thus saving an animal from suffering further while trying to locate a vet to PTS said animal. I think each shelter should have one on hand for just this reason. However, my current vets don't agree with me. And yes, I have PTS a few myself myself. Not an easy task (mentally), but one I knew I had to do to end the suffering of the ferret. And if I had to, I would do it again.
