Thank you so much to everyone for all your advice. The ferrets do have their own room (complete with a 3 story Ferret Nation cage) so the dog and ferrets need not ever be in the same room. We were leaning towards a pug, and that seems to be a good idea according to a few people I've spoken to. Now...we begin the search.
