THE COLORADO BOX FERRETS Visit the National Ferret Rescue site for pictures of the deplorable conditions of the "shelter" and the condition of the ferrets: http://nationalferretrescue.org/ Over the weekend (February 28, 2009), April of Totally Ferret received a distress call from associates of the Ferrets Etc. shelter in Colorado, asking her and several other ferret groups from Colorado to come and remove all their ferrets. Upon their arrival, they found that 17 ferrets were all jailed in some sort of a dark, giant box - no food, no water, overflowing litter boxes, feces and urine everywhere and very little light - all alone, left to fend for themselves. All are in need of medical attention for various reasons - adrenal disease, chordomas, rotten teeth, etc. Unbelievably all survived. Upon arriving at safety, they all scrambled and fought over water and then food. The volunteers say that they are very cuddly and just melted into their arms. SOS has offered to take donations for their vet care, which makes your donation tax deductible. Or you can send the donation directly to the vet at: Dr. Jerry Labonde Homestead Vet Hospital 6900 S. Holly Circle Englewood, CO. 8011 Acct Number 2585- Furetti - COLORADO BOX FERRETS 303-771-7350 April reports that they need some used bedding for these guys - stuff that they can send with them to their new homes. At this point they have found places for all 17, but would like to send them vetted instead of asking shelters to take on that responsibility. So please, if you can donate to get these little guys feeling better, they would really appreciate it. Donations can be in any amount - every little bit helps. Their food has been donated by our friends at Totally Ferret. If you have any gently used bedding to donate, please send it to: Colorado Box Ferrets c/o April at Totally Ferret 3001 Industrial Lane, Unit 4 Broomfield, CO 80021 Thank you April, Ferret Moms of Colorado, Front Range Ferrets and Furetti, from the entire ferret community for saving these little guys!!! Please know that we are working with the authorities to make sure that the owners of Ferrets Etc are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In light of that, we will not be able to answer any questions or details concerning the shelter's ownership --- for now. Stayed tuned to the National Ferret Rescue site for updates.
