Hello All. I have an idea on deaf ferrets and food digging. Mind you, the only research I have to back up this idea is my own personal experience with deaf ferrets....and I have had a few. As we all know, when we loose one of our senses, our other senses become stronger. With the deaf ferrets I have had, I have noticed that there nose is always going....even more so then hearing ferrets. Well, when it comes to food....we all know that if it is stirred it's smell becomes stronger. So maybe our deaf kids are just stirring their food so that it smells more? That's one idea. Another idea I had deals with sight. I know the lock crocks I use, some of them are quite narrow. I would assume that when our fur kids stick their nose into the bowl that their sight of the food becomes limited. And heck, if they pulled the food out on the cage floor, it's spread out and possibly easier to get a better view on that one piece of kibble they were going after. So here are my thoughts. They are pretty simple and I am sure that someone will come up with some really detailed ideas.....but the topic is quite an interesting one. Gets our brains working. Erin [Posted in FML 6216]
