I have noticed in various post that people have very strong opinions regarding store ferrets. To the point that not only will they not purchase the ferrets they will not even go in the stores. I would love to see the sale of ferrets commercially sold stop. I agree it is a bad situation. What I often wonder is this. If those of us who love ferrets stop going into the pet stores then who is going to make those "spot checks"? I go in. I check to see that the food is mush, that they have water, the poop looks ok, they have proper bedding, they look ok. I am not a vet, but an experienced ferret owner and I certainly have the skills. If I feel something is off/wrong I say something and wait until they correct the situation. I feel that these ferrets are the "soldiers" of the ferret world. I have bought ferrets that where sickly, obviously underage, ferrets that I felt would not make it unless they received personal care. Should those ferrets be left behind in our cause to boycott the stores? I too want to see the sale of ferrets in stores stopped or better regulations enforced. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the shelters where empty... But at what cost? Lisa [Posted in FML 6027]
