Do NOT give cod liver oil instead of fish oil. Ferrets don't have as much trouble with Vitamin A as we do, but they develop calcium problems when given too much D just like dogs can. Cod liver oil is NOT a substitution for fish oil. I am not sure about what you injected and possible complications but seem to recall that ulcerations are possible. You need to ask on the FHL because of the many vet members and need to remind people that you are in Ethiopia so they don't think in terms of non-tropical illnesses. See if her gums are tacky. Because some ferrets have skin not return rapidly for other reasons gum tackiness is usually a more accurate way to observe. If she is losing fluid too easily her kidneys may be feeling the illness. Human meters do not give accurate readings for ferrets and the glucose will affect readings. Dog food has different nutrient levels: less protein, less fat and extremely important, less taurine. There is a possibility that too low levels of taurine might cause heart disease or blindness or both in ferrets. On the other hand right now getting anything into her sounds like it is hard so try supplementing taurine but don't let this be the long term food if Lucy makes it.
