OK guys, I need help again -- with my last two ferrets, Rico and Jonas. First our observations and actions, and then the questins. OBSERVATIONS AND ACTIONS Day before yesterday, Rico ground his teeth one time when I picked him up, and yesterday horrid diarrhea, sometimes dark, then light. First I found a v soft and mucousy pool but w substance, then saw him make one w no substance, just watery. This was around 8pm. So, after a crying bout, I phoned Dr D, and we agreed on sulfa and antibiotic. We went as fast as we could (on foot) to find a pharmacy that was still open. Reached one at 8:30 pm to find it had just closed, but found another w both Rxs. No prescriptions needed here except for narcotics and psychotropics. Got sulfa and amoxy, and gave both ferts treatement: 1 ml sulfa, and .5 of amoxy (125 strength). Also a couple of 5ml syringes of water each afterwards. This noon, .5 of sulfa and .5 of amoxy followed by the water. The plan is 1xday amoxy and 2x sulfa. This AM, according to Sisay, Rico's stools were normal, but he had cleaned them up and I haven't seen any myself yet. Both ferrets look and act fine -- which in itself made me cry last night again -- how cd I not "see" them at a terrible end, given the other 4 deaths.. But now I am in action mode, hoping we caught it early and that we know a little more abt Rxs and supportive care. OK, I just saw Jonas poop, and at the end, as he was walking away, he dropped a large clear-liquid drop w fresh blood in it. QUESTIONS Wd you alter the plan (1xday amoxy and 2x sulfa.)? HOw long wd you dose? ANy reason to not give amoxy and sulfa at the same dosing time. When shd stomach protector be given relative to timing of the Rxs. Shd we give Bactrim instead of or together w Amopxy? Shd we separate them? They have been constantly together, and I wd rather not stress them by having ach be alone. They are separated now.
