To: The Ferret Community RE: Ohio Ferret Rescue/DMK Rescue In order to avoid further conflicts of interest, glitches in communication and misunderstandings, I will be responding to the questions that were posted on the National Ferret Web site on DMKferretrescue.com. Michael, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the tremendous job you have done for this rescue. Your time, energy and caring will always be appreciated. The DMKferretrescue web page is a work in progress. Please bear with me because I have never done a web page before and I am trying to juggle doing this while there are still numerous other tasks related to the Ohio Ferret Rescue/DMK rescue that needs my attention. Harsh and hurtful things have been said about me and the way I have handled the details of this rescue. I apologize for any friction that I may have caused. The sheer enormity of the work involved in doing the rescue has taught me a great deal about what can be done better for future rescues of this magnitude. Cindy Scheidt, Julie Fossa, and Pam Mattson are going to keep a tight hold on the reins. We are working diligently to keep the ferret community informed about the rescue. It was always my intent to thank those who stepped up to volunteer their time and resources and businesses that gave: a grant, donated money and much-needed products. Their contributions were crucial to the success of the rescue. They are awesome and deserve recognition publicly, so that everyone in the ferret community knows of their kindness and generosity and it will be transferred to the new web page. Even now, there are some details that won't be available, such as the financial information, until I complete them for submission to my accountant. If you wish to see a copy of the financial information I am required to submit as a non-profit, please send me a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your request and I will send it to you when it becomes available. We have learned that a rescue of this size takes more time and effort both before and afterwards than anyone could have predicted. I really have done the best I could. It is important that the Ferret Community put aside our differences (myself included), get representatives from each state with like-minded goals together and communicate in a respectful and productive manner. Anything less than that has proven to be detrimental to the ferrets we care about. My goal is to address concerns that stemmed from my mistakes and miscommunications and then look to a future where it may be possible to have back a supportive community working for the welfare of our beloved ferrets by finding ferrets forever homes throughout the United States and take the burden off of the shelters.
