I am one of the people who was hoping more answers would come from the McKay rescue. Not from a point of attack, because what was achieved was amazing, but to move forward with more knowledge for future rescues. To move forward with a pre-set plan for future rescues. The way this rescue was originally planned, with a building prepared ahead and with vets available with donated services to get the ferrets medical attention (and spays and neuters before homes) was a good one, but it happened suddenly and quickly, with a new plan put in place quickly, the way most rescues happen. The ferret community pitched in with the huge undertaking Lori took, and the resuce happened. As much as more information would be great, what matters is that the ferrets are out of there. They are being cared for and loved, and hopefully all will find forever homes. So please, in our quest for knowledge, let's not attack those that stepped up. It was very scary reading the reports of the McKay farm, especially being at a great distance and feeling helpless. At times it seemed like the resuce couldn't possibly happen, but it did. Whatever the details, it thankfully happened. Of course, now shelter everywhere are more burdened than usual. Please, let's all continue to support the ferrets of this rescue, and of all other circumstance, and do what we can for the shelters. Please go to the giving tree and choose a ferret to help this holiday season, or choose a needy shelter and make a donation. Even little bits add up, and every card and dolllar let's the shelter Mom and Dad know we're trying too. The ferret community is one of the most supportive and dedicated that I can imagine. We are an impassioned group. And while that passion can lead to bickering and flaming, it also spurs us to great action and deeper knowledge for our little ones. Together over the years (and in this most recent rescue) we have united to do so much. Let's continue. In the spirit of the fml, nearly 20 years of it, and in the spirit of the season, please let's focus on the ferrets that still need our support. http://www.mkaresq.com/The_Giving_Tree_2007/GivingTree2007.htm Risa [Posted in FML 5817]
