Dear Kim, What follows is a post I sent to the FHL, when someone's ferret was diagnosed with lymphoma. We had good success, and so did the other person who used this protocol. I don't know, though, if it will work for Juvenile Lymphoma. JL is just so much more aggressive and fast-acting than "regular" lymphoma. I don't know if you're on the FHL, but if you are, look in the archives under "Essiac" or "Flor-Essence", and you will find more information. (There might be some in the FML archives, too.) Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with Webby, and am sending healing thoughts his (and your) way. Bright Blessings, Becky with Tanner, Tinker, Jasper, and Dervish ***Please bear in mind that I am not a veterinarian, this is just something that worked for us. Please discuss any treatment protocol with a ferret-knowlegable vet before proceeding!*** A few years ago, my ferret, Twizzler, was diagnosed (through biopsy) with intermediate-grade Lymphoma. In consultation with her vet, we opted not to do chemo, mainly because of the poor prognosis and potential side effects. Instead, we chose to use a combination of high-dose pred and Essiac. She was put on Prednisolone elixir 3mg/ml, 0.6 ml twice daily (she was around two pounds, and this was the top dose for her weight. Because of the aggressive nature of Lymphoma, her vet opted to go high on her dose.) In addition to the pred, she was on 2.5 ml of Flor-Essence diluted 50% with water (similar to Essiac, but without alcohol) twice daily, given on an empty stomach. Using this protocol, we actually managed to get almost 20 more months with her. She slowed down quite a bit, and we eventually had to start supplementing her with a jar of chicken baby food twice a day, but she still had that look in her eye right to the end. Please bear in mind that I am in the minority here. Lymphoma is an aggressive disease, and not every ferret responds this well. But if you look up Essiac in the archives, you will see other success stories, so don't give up hope! ***Once again, I am not a veterinarian. Please work with an experienced ferret veterinarian to devise a treatment protocol for your situation!!*** [Posted in FML 5831]
