I know some are getting vet help and some are not. If you have a local humane society or other animal groups as there are many in each area you can call them and ask them if they can help with spay/neuter vouchers. I know here in my area of NW Louisiana there are about 5 different animal groups. I am with the Humane Society of NW Louisiana, then there is another HS here, which by the way none are affiliated with the HSUS - all the individual Humane Societies are not affiliated with the national org! Don't know if ya'll knew that are not. But anyway - we have 2 humane societies, a group called Animal Welfare, Petsaves, and that is 4 groups right there -- 2 Humane Societies and 2 without the HS name in the group and a couple others here in NW Louisiana. If you check around your area, you will find them. Explain the situation and ask them for spay/neuter vouchers. All the vouchers here are worth $50 off the spay/neuter. Then all you do is take the voucher to the vet and you pay the remainder of the bill. IF you talk with your vet and he/she doesn't want to do them pro bono as a couple here are doing, get the vouchers - and ask the vet how much with the voucher. When I first approached my vet thinking I would maybe be able to get 1 he said he would do it with the voucher and only $25 out of my pocket. When I went back with emails from the beginning of the rescue he and another vet both said they would do X amount pro bono. Between the 2 vets they will do 30 pro bono. So ask you animal groups if they can/will help you with vouchers for spay/neuters. And ask you vet what they can do to help you offset the cost. If you can't find the animal groups -- usually dog/cat rescues - ask the vets who the groups are because they usually get the vouchers! The group that does the vouchers then pays the vet what their voucher is worth when it is done. I hope this info helps others get a lower cost on the spay/vouchers for these DMK babes! Hopefully I have been a little helpful for those who are facing higher vet costs! Hugs, Nancy in Louisiana Feel free to cross-post this info on any of the boards/groups. [Posted in FML 5769]
