As far as I know, and I've had ferrets treated for lymphoma as well as adrenal disease, melatonin implants are used for supressing the symptoms of Adrenal Disease. The only "cure" for AD is surgery to remove the adrenal. Melatonin implants are used as a first line treatment for AD. Better is Lupron injections or depots, but more expensive. The best thing of all is surgery (if your ferret is a good surgical candidate). Do you ferrets or one of them have lymphoma? If your vet said that melatonin can help with it he's mistaken. It has nothing to do with it. Lymphoma can be treated well with Tuft's protocol. I have a copy of it here and also the contact info for vets if you need. It is chemo, but it is the best option and with a good vet can be affordable if you have the extra money to spend. Over almost six months, I totaled around $300 to do this for a fuzzie rescue. She went into remission but sadly died of an unrelated tumor of the vena cava. There are other things for lymphoma but I am not up on them. But as far as I know, melatonin is not going to do anything at all for the ferret. Prednisone also does not (it is only given if you are not going to treat the disease, to relieve swelling and pain, and to reduce the size of the tumors) but it does nothing overall to stop the lymphoma.
