Kevin, Through the years DMK was offered help to clean up and get things repaired, and the only cost to him would have been supplies to repair fallen shed, and cages. Each and every person or group was turned down. Every individual that offered help was turned down. His reason was always the same, he just needed someone to buy more ferrets, he didn't trust people enough to let them help, it was the breeder that dumped his stock on him fault, just buy more ferrets, get your friends to buy more ferrets. Reports to the state and governmental agencies turned deaf ears to anyone who called or wrote, even posting on boards the whole thing was met with a raised eye brow. It is a little hard to believe that anyone would let conditions get that bad. I mean, think about it, to some folks if there is a pile of poop next to the litter box that is disgusting, or if a ferret isn't free roam they aren't getting the best treatment. The only way to prove it was pictures, it was the only way people would be able to get their minds wrapped around the actual conditions. It was part of what got USDA/APHIS to actually take the statements seriously. I have spoken to several people who had been on the farm after the pictures hit the internet. They have told me that there had been signs posted, no photographs please. There had been no new pictures posted. This is something that has spanned decades. jean Jean Caputo-Lee Director Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter 4116 Bucyrus Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44109 http://www.ferretsunlimited.org Non-Profit, No-Kill 216/749-3885 216/409-3849 Volunteers are the backbone of ALL shelters.
