Creators, or those places which purchase them, won their writings and photographs. This weekend I found what appears to be a use -- and unauthorized alteration -- of a photography from which my husband holds copyright, and recently found something similar in terms of a post. To use people's writings or photographs legally (and to alter them) it is necessary to get permission of the owner of the piece. For example, using a photograph taken by someone else and published in a major ferret magazine would not be legal without the permission of the photographer and the magazine editor, alterations to such a photo (including cropping) would have to okayed by them, and the photograph would need to have an attached legend saying who took the photo and which magazine published it.
