Before anyone goes off the deep end about this post, I want to say this was before I was highly knowledge in ferrets. Years ago, when I had my first ferret, a rescued lady by the name of Dee Dee. She came to me past the prime of her life, somewhere in her 5th or 6th year. A gentle albino girl with the heart of a lion. Dee Dee loved chocolate and at the time, I didn't know it could be harmful to them. Dee Dee got once a week, a chocolate kiss to lick to her content for about 30 min then it was taken away. She loved it. She never bit it, only licked it, and she knew when her time limit was up and would bring it to me by pushing it with her paws and nose. Dee Dee lived to the ripe old age of 12 when Adrenal Disease caught up to her. My vet said that the extra "treat" to her was probably the best thing she's every had in her life considering the abuse she suffered prior to me taking her. He was not expecting her to last beyond the first year I had her due to the shape she was in. But the thought of her weekly chocolate binge kept her with me for another 6 years. With my current 3, no chocolate allowed, but they do get other "forbidden" treats. Peanut butter and Vanilla (sugar free) ice cream are among the top ranking ones, along with mashed potatoes, french fries and Sprite soda. Kyba starts the dance of Joy when he smells potatoes and starts dooking till he gets some. In all, a taste of the forbidden fruit did not cost me the life of my fuzzy, it extended it and I grew to learn what these little devils are capable of. Their antics and determination, drive to please and yet make you crazy at the same time, all to be paid back 10 fold with kisses and dances. They have stolen our hearts here and this is and will forever be a fuzzy home now.
