http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/message/1093 Yes, Dr Williams did answer this question in digest 97. For dilated cardiomyopathy (the most common type of heart disease in ferrets) there are 3 medications that are recommended. 1) an ACE inhibitor (benazepril=Lotensin or enalapril=Enacard and Vasotec) with 2) a diuretic (furosemide=Lasix) and 3) a medication to help strengthen the muscle contraction of the heart (digoxin or the new drug pimobendan=Vetmedin). Pred should be avoided when possible because it can cause fluid retention and make the heart disease worse. Hopefully that will help clear up the confusion, Jerry Murray, DVM brought to the FML from the FHL but FHL co-moderator, Sukie (not a vet) Current FHL address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth People can join there or can send a blank mail to the automated joining address: [log in to unmask] and then follow the directions. (The second is recommended for those having problems with Yahoogroups web settings, and afterward send a blank mail from your subscribed address to [log in to unmask] to get the digest instead of individual mails. ) Recommended ferret health links: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/ http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/ http://www.ferretcongress.org/ http://www.trifl.org/index.shtml [Posted in FML 5505]
