We would like to have "adoption centers" in further out ranges where we can adopt ferrets to a wider group than just the Dallas/Ft Worth area. We receive ferrets from all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other areas. We do not ship out ferrets. Therefore we would like to place up to 10 ferrets at further locations for adoption. This also would be more beneficial should something happen to me, no one would have to take over 50 to 60 ferrets. Our care is take the ferrets in, microchip them, distemper shots off to the vet for exam and rabies shots. We have foster homes waiting in line for the old and medically challenged - two nurses do the critical sick and old and take care of those scheduled for surgery plus post op care - the other fosters who need Lupron shots once a month or preds twice a day till the end of their lives go to homes of 7 or less ferrets. These homes provide the love, we provide the medical care with Dr Jerry Murray. All these homes have to be within our area to go to him The young and healthy go into the adoption program They are placed on Petfinder most of the time. We have an individual who processes applications checks references, vets of their other animals, landlords, and weeds out those with kids under 5, college students living in dorms, and the rest of our rules that apply, then directs them to the adoption center to set an appointment. (final decision to adopt is up to the director to judge by the adoptors action with the ferrets) The director will work with the people teaching new owners how to clip nails clean ears and general hands on care. The adoptors will have a copy of their application with the notations from the coordinator of weak spots or things they need to be educated on. Only young and healthy ferrets would go to these centers. If a ferret becomes ill, we will pay emergency care and then the ferret needs to be transported back here for care under Dr Murray and our foster system. We already have centers set up in Gun Barrel, Balch Springs, Little Elm, Abilene, and are needing someone centered in or around Ft Worth, El Paso, Oklahoma and up around Wichita Falls. We do get inquires from these areas to adopt to, most usually people are willing to bring us their ferrets from those points but hesitant to travel that far to us to adopt when they can get them from pet stores in their area. No center is to take in ferrets, they are to come here for quarantine and initial care and evaluation. If you are interested, please email me direct at [log in to unmask] or Christinna at [log in to unmask] We will provide cages and supplies but do expect the ferrets to be given out time 8 hours a day to be healthy, build muscle mass, interact with other ferrets, dogs, cats, kids, whatever. An inspection of the premises will be made to be assured the set up will accommodate a good environment for the ferrets. The hope is to set up after the first of the year as we shut down adoptions during the month of December (at least to new ferret owners).
