>We have seen an increase in the number of ferrets being brought to
>the Ark in the past couple of months. This is often due to people
>using the animals in the summer for hunting rabbits.

Nobody in their right mind rabbits in the summer unless they are
professional pest controllers. A good working ferret can drive out 100s
of rabbits each year and the electronic collars are nearly $100 each
these days.

>All the ferrets have been neutered or spayed (which will make them
>unsuitable for rabbiting).

I know dear Kate tells the public that but spaying makes no difference
to a jill's working ability and a lot of working hobs are now castrated
but hobs are not generally used for rabbiting.
