Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA. We were in the dog area (they have a 40 acrea area for the pups) that I've gone to just about every other day for the past three years. We were walking away from this spot on the Sammamish River and something caught my eye - turned to see a weasel dashing across the path and then jumping through a fence and into the tall grass along the river. It happened so fast but my boyfriend and I both got a good look at it - it had to have been only about 25-30 feet away. Long and lithe - brown with a lighter underbelly and black on its tail tip. I got home and it's definitely a long-tailed weasel. Here's what they look like - <http://www.link75.org/bhm/four/libby/libclass4/sd/writ5/Images/ Long-tailed-weasel3.jpg> Thankfully none of the dogs saw it. I think it made sure the dogs weren't looking and that I WAS since it knew how happy I'd be to have seen it! :) Anyone else as nuts about ferret cousins?? - Laura and The Seattle Seven at www.ferretocious.com [Posted in FML issue 5279]
