Hand-made by my mom as a gift to me, but I really want to raise funds for this little ferret of only 15 weeks old with a broken leg. [please do not worry about it being given to me by my mommy...I have others and I can get more...besides...i really dislike Mint Green!!!] I wish i could have made one of my own for this..but i just do not have time...:( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the story of the little ferret, Noah. [by Joanne, Ferret Corner, AZ] I received a call 5/8/06 from a lady who bought a ferret about 2-3 weeks ago. The ferret somehow broke his leg. She took him to the vet and they just put a wrap around his leg. I talked with the vet about doing surgery. They can do it but if the leg cannot be repaired it would have to be removed. This lady's vet told her that he believes that it is broken in several places and will require surgery. We are going to need money for surgery... Our vet can do it so I can get it done right away but it has to be paid off within 30 days. [next info on the ferret from Joanne] Just a quick update... I [joanne] now have the little guy with me. His name was Noir. We have renamed him Noah. He is a bundle of joy. His leg is broke.. he doesn't use it... just kinda hops around... dragging it... it is his front right. It is swollen too. He had his vet appointment this morning. The vet did the x-ray on his right front leg. It is broke/dislocated. It is the radius... and dislocated at the elbow joint. Here is the problem. Because of where it broke, it can't be put back in. Our vet even checked with an orthopedic surgeon. He agreed. So right now we are going to watch him with his leg for about a week and then evaluate again. The vet feels that the best thing to do might be to amputate and I tend to agree. If he continues to drag the leg around there could be other problems that he has to deal with once he is older and I worry about him going through surgery. Right now he is not in pain... I sure don't know how... but he's not. Or at least not showing it at all. He is only 15 weeks old. The vet said that it appears that the bone was broke by a fall. Which I can understand. These kits are so wild and ready to go as babies.... Even if the previous owner had done the x-ray, they wouldn't have been able to do anything. From what I can tell, she got him April 19 and he broke his leg April 23rd and went to the vet April 24th. So, what happens now? Well we will watch him for a week and let him have normal exercise. Then he will go back to the vet for evaluation and possible surgery. The amputation will be around $600.00. We will continue to raise funds for his surgery. Let me tell you a little bit about this boy... he is wonderful! Great personality... really! He is just happy go lucky... loves to play and LOVES his snake. He takes his toys and puts them in his food bowl and plays with them. Doesn't bite hard and just loves everything. The little bugger has spunk.... He wants to get out and play... ***************** Ok..kat back now... Let's help this little 15 week old kit have a long and wonderful life...If he has to have his leg amputated...then let's get the $$ together for that...I have a ferret who lost his right front leg as a kit..and you would never know he does not have it..so I KNOW this kit can have a long and wonderful life without his leg... You may even consider pooling resources and getting this afghan as a future fundraiser...just a thought. so...in Ty Pennington's words... LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!! thank you for helping me help Little Noah... JustPlainKat [Posted in FML issue 5239]
