I use Yesterday's News, which is newspaper pellets. I get the bag that says it's for cats because it's way cheaper than the one that says it's for ferrets and they are the exact same thing with different pictures on the bags. I get a 35 pound bag for about $6 at PetSmart (WAAAAAYYYYY cheaper than Petco). I find it easy to clean up because it doesn't fall apart easily. It's also not very dusty so it doesn't irritate my fertys' noses. The only downside is that they also find it very fun to kick around. Diana, owned by Molly, Joey Ramone, and the recently deceased Murphy. P.S. Murphy was only about a year-and-a-half when he passed away. A month-and-a-half before his first birthday, he swelled up really big like a balloon with fluid and also lost most of his body weight. I took him to the vet and they x-rayed him, but couldn't see through the fluid. They gave me prednisone and some type of liquid medication to give him to make the fluid go away, which it did. He also seemed to have more energy, but was really skinny (down to about one-and-a-half pounds when he used to weigh three). In December, he hadn't gained any of his weight back and actually seemed to have lost more and I noticed a lump in his side. I took him back to the vet and he was down to just over a pound in weight and the vet said that she was surprised that he had lived this long because she hadn't expected it when she saw him the first time. I asked her if she thought it could be a blockage, but she didn't think so. She gave me more prednisone to try to shrink the mass, but she told us he probably had only less than a month left. He seemed to be getting better with the prednisone; he would run to meet us at the door rather than just laying around. A couple weeks later, I noticed that he was pooping in places he didn't normally poop and two days later he passed away. Does anyone know what might have caused this in case I ever have this happen to a ferret again? Maybe there was something else we could have done that my vet didn't know about? Thank you.
