Hi, Andria, The anemia from prolonged heat in female ferrets is real. You will find it in any vet text on ferrets. What is not consistent is the percentage involved, though figures ranging from 60% and upward for general populations are often mentioned. Some breeders seem to have been fortunate enough to genetically reduce this tendency, going from their own reports. So, they are not lying, but they also don't have the common situation, so should not assume that they do. I lack time today but you can find vet posts on this in the FML and FHL Archives. > How does Diazoxide: > dosing from _Essentials of Ferrets, a Guide for Practioners_: > 5-30 mg/kg q 12h PO >compare with the .2 ml I have for my ferret. Seems like a big >difference or am I looking at the amounts incorrectly? I think that you are looking at ml, not mg. You need the mg number! These will help you (especially message #6): <http://www.smartgroups.com/message/viewdiscussion.cfm? gid=1423922&messageid=16847> ml is the volume (but concentration is often NOT one to one for mg and ml) mg is the actual amount of medication (medication weight) kg is the animal weight -- Sukie (not a vet, and not speaking for any of the below in my private posts) Recommended health resources to help ferrets and the people who love them: Ferret Health List http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth FHL Archives http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ AFIP Ferret Pathology http://www.afip.org/ferrets/index.html Miamiferrets http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/ International Ferret Congress Critical References http://www.ferretcongress.org [Posted in FML issue 5196]
