Yes, 8-in-1 HAS recalled the chicken flavored Ferret Bites. I know this, because I was one of the people who got packages of moldy ones, & my husband found ones w/ maggots in them in a Toledo OH pet store. And I've spent a lot of time over the past several wks contacting the people at 8-in-1 who are willing to listen, as well as being in a position to do something about it. 8-in-1 had one recall earlier this past fall, & a second one during the 2nd half of Nov. Even as I write this, 8-in-1 is trying to find any remainlng packages that may still be out there. They know the dates which these were manufactured, the codes on them, the whole shebang. The reason I know this to be true is because I have been in almost *constant* contact, via email & phone, w/ the higher-ups at 8-in-1. Yes, they are listening to their customer's concerns. Yes, they are interested in making it right. No, they - nor *any* business - will not respond kindly to threats of lawsuits. I ran my own business for *years*. You get much farther by pointing things out nicely, leading them to the proper information, & having a calm, educated discussion about it. You don't jump through the door screaming "class action lawsuit". My MIL was a law professor. Her specialty was business & corporate law. (My husband says it's terrible growing up w/ a Mom who's a lawyer - not only will she not let you go outside when it's raining, she'll site landmark Supreme Court cases proving *why* you can't. :-D) When I opened my own business, she practically *beat* this stuff into me. The effort, time, preparation, lining up of expert witnesses, is *much* more difficult than anyone thinks. Even if you have the resources to back up your claims, it takes a fairly major law firm, w/ a huge staff, to take the risk of handling a case involving a class action suit - & that's just for humans. The risks of taking such a case invoving animals is even more risky & less appealing. It's a big drain of manpower, that could be used for more urgent matters. And, even it you *do* find someone who'll take the case, & in case you *do* win, the payout is almost *always* pennies on the dollar. Once the law firm takes it's cut, it's even less. Been there, done that. There are better ways of doing things. Honey, not vinegar. JMHO, Lin, Ariel, Oberon, Max, & Puck To email me back, take out everything from "K" to "2" [Posted in FML issue 5129]
