Please don't stop your search. It's way too soon. If you know vaguely where he is and that he is alive, it is our responsibility as a pet owner to save them. Each day that passes, is a nail in the coffin. Sometimes you have to knock on neighbor's and friend's doors to do a search. Sometimes it take several traps. And it takes many, many checks through the day to find a ferret. Mornings and before dusk are their active times. There are several people on here who had to search for even weeks. Now granted it is very unusual, even rare to retrieve a ferret live after that amount of time (each time, the animal had finally been picked up by someone or a shelter, etc). Some ferret's will try to eat bugs or a mouse. Many will not. Many are imprinted on their food too much and will even starve before ever eating. I have had a couple ferrets who though mice were "friends". Only a few have eaten any bugs for me. Like some readers said, the weather alone is a huge factor here. Good luck, keep trying.
