There is a tendency to assume that OTC drugs are safe because they are not prescription, but there are over the counter human meds that can create slow chronic damage, and others which can cause acute organ failure and even death. If a ferret gets an over the counter medication check with the treating vet about safety and if the vet doesn't know then spring for the money to call one of the two veterinary poison control centers (ASPCA, and Angell Memorial) to have the med checked into, please. The contact info for both of those centers can be found in the FML and FHL Archives. The FML Archives address is in the header of every day's FML. The FHL Archives address is in my signature. -- Sukie (not a vet) Ferret Health List co-moderator http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth FHL Archives fan http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ replacing http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org International Ferret Congress advisor http://www.ferretcongress.org [Posted in FML issue 5132]
