Although it is written for humans rather than for ferrets this is a resource which not only discusses uses but also discusses dangers of an assortment of alternative medical approaches, and a number of the considerations will extend across most or all mammals. Just like any standard medication used for a medical problem alternative meds also carry their own set of risks. Usually anything strong enough to heal is also strong enough to harm if used wrong, or in the wrong doses, or for the wrong length of time, or with the wrong medical conditions, or along with the wrong other meds or supplements, etc. Please, also look in resources like the FML and FHL Archives (See addresses below my name.) since a number of herbs have been discussed there in relation to how they act in ferrets -- for example Pau D'Arco being too dangerous in ferrets and why, and licorice root's long known history of cardiovascular damage and risks like thromboses (at times confused with strokes in ferrets) and heart attacks (as well as other risks) in mammals in general when used chronically or used wrong otherwise. http://www.umm.edu/altmed/index.html -- Sukie (not a vet) Ferret Health List co-moderator http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth FHL Archives fan http://ferrethealth.org/archive/ replacing http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org International Ferret Congress advisor http://www.ferretcongress.org also a fan of the FML Archives: http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html [Posted in FML issue 5032]
