Dooks All ~! As we all know, the devestation of Hurricane Katrina has brought havoc to several areas. Numerous pets and livestock need aid and assistance as well. Chris Mathis of the Oregon Ferret Shelter was contacted by a shelter in Mississippi that is taking in some of the ferrets. She is in need of support and supplies. Chris has a wonderful idea. Kristine Lunneys Giving Tree has worked so well in the past to provide shelter kids with sponsors (and shelters with supplies) that a KATRINA TREE is being set up by the PFSN to hopefully bring attention to some of the rescued kids that need help. We're hoping that some of the 'elves' may be able to report to work early <G>. As we all know, many people have been displaced and could not take thier little ones with them. Hopefully, eventually, many these kids can be reunited with thier humans. Think of how those people would feel knowing that someone cared enough about thier little one to send a warm sleepsack or some treats. Many people have not survived and the little ones will need new homes. The KATRINA TREE will be on the PFSN website once our webmaster gets a page set up and running. Shelters that are recieving displaced ferrets from the storm area are encouraged to send information regarding the ferrets (photos, descriptions, needs) to [log in to unmask] Please use the subject line KATRINA TREE, and please, only the ferrets that have been displaced by the storm. For those not familiar with The Giving Tree, each year around the holidays photos and descriptions of needy shelter kids are placed on the site. You choose one (or more) and send them desperately needed 'gifts'. Some 'kids' may want a new sleep sack. Some may need medicine. All will need love and care. The shelter operators and volunteers provide all the love and care they can. Hopefully the rest of us can fulfill some of their needs.
