Good news!  I haven't read any of the books yet, but I've ordered them.
I found out that the writer, Elizabeth Dearl, has a whole mystery series
that features a ferret named Hazel who is owned by the detective, Taylor
Madison.  They should be pretty true to life as the writer had a pet
ferret for nine years.
