Hey everyone - some good news (LONG TIME COMING) about Phoebe's HUGE progress within the past few days and her recent IBD ((Inflammatory Bowel Disease) diagnosis . . . . Last night I tried (again) to see if Phoebe would eat any of her soup during the night by placing some cold soup (with a dose of Ferretone mixed in, for enticement) in a dish next to the cage doorway. When I try this I usually close the cage door and don't let her free roam like usual so she's confined closer to the food. Well, even though I accidently forgot to close the cage door (meaning that she could walk out and away from the food and forget it's there during the night), she actually ATE IT! I don't know when and exactly how much but probably about 1.5 tablespoons sometime during the 7 hrs. I was asleep!!! THIS IS A HUGE STEP, esp. since the soup was COLD but remember it was heavily laced with Ferretone, too. And then I did remember to close the cage door with her in it today, while I was at work, and came home to find that she had eaten about the same amount AGAIN, which means that she didn't starve for the normal 8-10 hrs. like she unfortunately does when I can't get home mid-day to feed her lunch. If she keeps this up, I'm sure it will do wonders on keeping her blood sugar levels more in check. BUT WAIT . . . THERE'S MORE! I re-added some pumpkin into her soup (I took a break from the pumpkin in last week's soup and she had very loose stools all week) and her most recent poops are more solid again and easier to clean up but still a bit bird-seedy (need to reduce the fat content). Unfotunately, though, she didn't make it to the litter box (although it's less than 5 inches from her bed in the cage) :-( But HEY, TWO OUT OF THREE 'AINT BAD with her so I'm jumping for joy!!!! Hopefully I can get the right combo of meds and food down so everything else will come in line and maybe I'll even see her dook ONE TIME before she leaves me someday! ! ! :-) THAT woud be AWESOME!!! Thanks SO MUCH to everyone for your thoughts, support, suggestions, and prayers! We really apprecite your efforts. Jennifer and the 3 Amigos [Posted in FML issue 4952]
