Krista, you mention that your ferret began the bouts of staring off into space after starting a raw diet. If you look in the FHL Archives you will find several examples of ferrets who had to have starch added to their diets. It is not common, but some with insulinoma simply did not do well on the regular high protein approach so those few developed symptoms of insulinoma and lowered blood sugar on high protein diets but not regular diets. There was also at least one who did not have insulinoma who did this (but there wasn't later follow-up for to say if they actually were starting insulinoma). It is not usual, but it can happen so should be among your considerations when discussing his case with your treating vet. Diet is not one-size-fits-all. -- Sukie (not a vet) Ferret Health List http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/ferrethealth FHL Archives http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org International Ferret Congress http://www.ferretcongress.org [Posted in FML issue 4954]
