Hello all, so sorry i haven't been in touch. it's been CRAZY at the shelter. With the latest Easter rescue, the shelter now has well over 80 ferrets. Many are in foster homes and about 40 at the shelter. The "new" kids got hit BAD with ECE and some have still not recovered. All 28 Easter kids now have names and have settled in nicely. Dr. Regan came by the shelter to vaccinate all the kids on Friday. All 28 kids are now officially spayed/neutered and have their 1st set of shots. Dr. Regan helped mommie sub Q a few of the weaker ferrets that still have ECE (they weren't vaccinated) and each ferret was weighed, examined and given a chart. Sadly, little Tika didn't pass her exam with flying colours. Dr. Regan can feel her right adrenal and a few other lumps in her abdomen. Precious also has Adrenal Disease. Harls is still having problems with his eye and we're working on funding to get him to the U of Guelph, the same place that took care of me. Dino (the kid with tumors on he penis) is doing very well although the tumors have grown slightly. mommie also noticed that he is missing BOTH his upper canines. Lobo was hit hard with ECE and is not coming around so well. He, along with Tika, Mishie, Zorro, Leo, Aldo, Barney, Fred and Spot are getting goo from mommie. BOY am i glad i'm a fert at the Bridge and don't need to worry about money to care for over 80 ferts!!!! mommie asked me to thank you all for your concern about our web site. we know it hasn't been updated in a while and we're working on it. auntie Jenny, our web mistress has been experiencing technical difficulties and is working on getting everything up to date. The shelter is still in need of blankets and towels though we're good on hammocks and sleep sacks from our last big rescue. also needed is Ferretone, litter, food and donations for vet care. On a great note, Spankie was adopted into a fantastic home as well as Pixie. Two of the Easter kids made it into new homes as well. One little girl to Dr. Hopper and Kisses to a new home too! Many thanks to Dr. Hopper (King Animal Hosp - London) for VERY discounted surgeries and to Dr. Cormier (Secord Animal Hosp - Toronto) and Dr. St. Pierre (Waterloo West Animal Hosp - Waterloo) for donating their time and skills for free spays/neuters. Also many thanks to Dr. Regan (Animal Hospital of High Park - Toronto) for donating her time to vaccinate the kids on Friday. mommie is requesting aid with laundry too. after spending a whole day cleaning bedding, uncle Andrew accidentally broke a florescent bulb all over the clean bedding <sheesh!> there was light bulb EVERYWHERE! Poor uncle Andrew couldn't get the vacuum to work and spent hours picking up tincy bits of glass. mommie will be working on cleaning the bedding again today lol! if anyone can take home some laundry over the next few weeks to help out, mommie would be truly ecstatic! Also looking for a new every-other Tuesday volunteer to come into the shelter and play with kids. If you can help, let mommie know.
