I have 7 ferrets Sidney, Rex, Isabella, Caesar, Simon and Bruno. But my most amazing ferret is Gus. At 4 months old he was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and not expected to live past 5-6 months. He has a hole in his heart and it is large enough to sustain a 10+ pound cat. He just turned a year old on April 2nd. He is on 4 medications , Digoxin, Enacard, Furosemide and Tumil K (a potassium supplement). You can actually look at his chest and see his heart beat and you can feel his heart murmur. Despite all of this he loves to play with the other ferrets and you cannot tell that he is sick at all. We did have a scare in November. He had trouble breathing and was really tired. We took him to his vet and she readjusted his meds and here he is !!!!! He is so amazing to wake up to every day. He gets his medications at 5 am and 5 pm. Though at 5am we do not see eye to eye and he absolutely hates his potassium supplement, not that i blame him. I was told that only 1 % of ferrets will ever get this condition and every day he amazes me more and more. He is very sweet, loving and extremely playful though I do have to monitor how hard he plays. I just wanted to share my story with everyone and if anyone else has or has had a ferret with this same problem I would love to know !!!!!!
