The post yesterday reminded me of how clever these fur beasts can be. I remember Nibble-ed who could penetrate just about anything including a locked shut wire cage, not to break out but to get in ! I had hunted for Nib for hours with not one clue where she was. Then I noticed the back of a large lady's dresser was pulled back. Many nails, long nails, were pulled out of the wood leaving an opening along the edge. I opened the draws one by one and sure enough, there was Nib looking back at me from a nest she made in a bag of new sox. She had pried that backing off over time and gained access to the inside and found this plastic bag of brand new socks, chewed a hole in the bag and was laying in there sleeping bag style comfy as a fert in a bag of sox! I came home to find all the knick knacks from the fire place mantle on the floor. Sure enough, there was Nib on the fire place mantle, she did what ferts do on a shelf and pushed everything off. But how did she get up there? No other way but to claw her way up the bricks to the shelf. But she was glad I came by, she must have been up there some time and was happy to get down. But the best one was I had built several huge cages, 4 feet wide, almost 2 feet deep, and 6 feet high on wheels with lots of levels in them, no two alike. Again I could not find Nib. After searching for hours I casually walked by a cage for sale and don't you know there was Nib laying in a hammy calmly watching me look for her. All the doors and all were well clasped shut and were still untouched. The only way she could have gained access to the inside was to climb up the outside of the cage, get into the (Ferret Store) empty 'J' feeder and squiggle thru to the inside of the cage. She was as snug as could be having the whole cage and hammy to herself. Amazing little animals for sure. Gordon and Byte-me [Posted in FML issue 4797]
