Great post, Wolfy!! Excellent input Julie!! I'm there...facing adrenals...Ambi's right:( Ambi will be 6 in June '05. She is adrenal, but oh so full of life, she seems no worse for wear other than the thinning hair. She is every bit her 'kit' self, except her hair loss. But in the end, adrenal kills, right? I was always knife happy for surgery...it worked for Jade!! In that at 6.5 years of age, he didn't pull thru his 3rd surgery, adrenalectomy. I did all that I could, so did my vet. It just plain, wasn't meant to be. I don't regret that we tried. Back to Ambi, what do I do? I've taken her to my regular vet, who thinks the best course of action is to let nature eventually takes it's course. I'm sorry, that just doesn't sit well with me, considering Ambi's current, all else aside excellent health for a near 6 year old. I took her to a 2nd vet for, what I was hoping, a total difference of opinion. Sure enough with the 2nd vet's opinion, (after an ultrasound)... is no surgery just yet. Considering, Ambi's happy ol' self, excellent in every other aspect of life....the vet wants to keep 'close tabs' on the gland/monitor it. Apparently the more normal the gland, the more riskier the surgery, (remember, we're talking the right adrenal gland). And apparently again, once the gland reaches a certain deteriorated 'state', (excuse me for lack of vet terminology), the more easy removal/success of the surgery. Somewhere, I'm still kinda knife happy...deep down I feel, the sooner the gland is removed, the better...get it out and be done with it...BUT, I'm going to have to err on the side of my vet, and take her word. Is this a bad decision, or a good decision? I want to make the best decision possible, (we all do), but who can really guarantee me the best decision?
