Our Draco gets pediapred 3 times a day. He gets 1 cc at 7am and 7 pm and 0.5 of a cc at 11:30pm. I also add 1/2 cc of honey to his evening recipe serving. This seems to keep him somewhat stabilized unless I forget the honey. I also noted that he was more likely to have a low sugar episode if I gave carafate up to 1 hour before his pedipred so now I give it 1 hour after. The pediapred is 6.75mg/5ml. I try to keep him stabilized on the lowest dosage possible because when he had surgery in Sept we found a stomach ulcer. He had not shown any outward signs previously. I also noted that a few days before he has a low sugar episode his stools get soft and thick pudding texture - no blood though till after the episode. When he comes out of it he has a tarry stool then everything goes back to normal. Draco has hind end weakness but he also has a liver and pancreas full of growths, which we saw when he had his surgery. He had his spleen and left adrenal removed and we left everything else alone - too many growths to get them all on the pancreas and his liver was covered with them. From the way he looked inside, our vet is surprised he's still with us and doing so well. I'm thankful for each day we share together. hugs to all. tle www.ferretfamilyservices.org [Posted in FML issue 4759]
