There is a bill passing through the NJ Assembly now that would recognize ferrets as domestic pet animals AND prohibit landlords from refusing to lease to tenants because they are ferret owners. (The bill also applies to various other pet animals, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice and FERRETS). You can read more about it at: http://www.petproductnews.com/ppn/Detail.aspx?aid=16617&cid=3622 Now here is the thing: this would be a wonderful bill for ALL of us pet owners; whether you rent or not, it gives you additional rights in seeking housing and recognizes ferrets as a domestic pet. BUT - this bill is expected to face heavy opposition from the rental companies!! So, PLEASE let your legislator know that you want to support this bill! You can do so by going to: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us In the search box, you can enter A2570, which is the bill's number, and write to the bill sponsors. You can also find your legislative district and legislators, and send them an email directly on the site! (Hint: if you write one email, then highlight and copy it, you can paste it into subsequent emails and save yourself a lot of time!) Thanks! - Ela Ela Heyn 212-278-7642 [Posted in FML issue 4740]
