My name is Krisztina and I'm writing from Hungary. This is my second day with this mailing list, and thanks a lot for Sukie for her interesting letter about feeding ferrets. I have learnt many new things. Now, I would like to ask your help. I have two adorable ferrets. One of them is a sable, 2 and a half years old, neutered male, Lui. Lui is very friendly with humans, but he hates every other ferret (hobs, jills, kits, adult, etc). In February we adopted an albino male Matyi (he is now 1 and a half years old) and as he was a whole hob, he had been neutered. To our biggest surprise, our very unfriendly ferret, Lui, has accepted Matyi and since then they are very big friends:), they are sleeping, playing only together:) My problem is the following: when we bought Lui as a kit, our vet told us Lui would protect later his territory very strongly, so later he wouldn't allow other people, strangers to our house - and he would bite them. Fortunately it wouldn't happened, Lui has became a very friendly ferret with humans. But, when we have adopted Matyi, he was a very shy and friendly ferret. But I have noticed for 2-3 weeks, that he has became a very unfriendly ferret with humans (he tries to send off our friends from our flat, if they don't understand his attempt, he bites very hard.) but he likes us as before. I don't understand his behavior. Could you help me why does he do this? Does he try to protect us, Lui or his territory? We don't understand him. If somebody come to us, we have to close Matyi into his cage - and we don't want to do this, because he is a member of our family. Sorry for my poor english (unfortunately my english to hungarian is better, than my hungarian to english:) Kind Regards, Krisztina (and his ferrets - Lui and Matyi). www.greylupus.atw.hu [Posted in FML issue 4718]
