my daughter's science class did an interesting experiment a couple of years ago...the long story short version was that just plain water actually removes most stains better than any cleaner they tested, and they tested 10 of them. so...do you really need anything with chemicals in it? try water, you'll be shocked!! also, on my opinion, you can never get the residue all out of the carpet after you use a cleaner, and then it acts as a magnet for dirt, because it's sticky, and round and round you go!! i do add a little (teaspoon or so) of the orange scented cleaner to the water, just to make everything smell nice, but that's it. i have 2 ferrets with allergies, both different. my marshall's guy is allergic to something,(haven't figured out what to this day), that comes out every fall, and he gets a rash, a sinus infection, and is generally miserable for a few days. we now just put him in the bathroom, (because it's the smallest room), with the vaporizor for 2 or 3 days with vicks in it. this works for him. my breeder ferret is my spring guy, and he swells up like a ballon, and gets a rash that looks like hives. it's really awful, and he can't tolerate benadryl, so the itching is merciless for him. we've tried all the prescriptions and over the counter stuff, but basically what works best for him is...bathroom again, we run an air purifier with a hepa filter, we run a himidifier at full strength, and put heat on to about 70 degrees. this results in a sauna type effect, but the extra moisture really seems to cut down on his itching. you have to just keep experimenting and asking, and eventually you'll hit on what works best for him. good luck to you both!
