How many vaccine doses (2 or 3) depends on the age of the ferret. It is ideal to start the kits at 8 to 9 weeks of age then booster again in 3 weeks and once again in 3 weeks (ie a series of 3). For an older ferret (ie 4months old or 4 years old that has not had any previous vaccine) then one dose now and a booster in 3 weeks (ie a series of 2). Then once a year boosters for life. Yes, there is a newer and better ferret distemper vaccine. It is called Purevax distemper from Merial. It is less likely to cause an allergic/vaccine reaction.
