Mike, I now have additional questions to ask if you don't mind. :-) I'll start out with my experiences first. It's not uncommon for Lupron Depot to stop working, just as the 24 hour Lupron stops working. (Whether it stops being effective after 24 hours or 1 month isn't important...for *this* question..., it's just a fact that BOTH will stop working after some time period.) Using the Depot: when that happens it is common for my vet to double the dose. This usually then kicks in and we continue the higher dose for many additional months. With that background, the question that comes to my mind is; what would have caused an immediate jump to surgery when the 24 hour Lupron stopped working? Why wasn't there....or was there, an attempt to increase the dose or change to the depot? I am NOT asking you to divulge any private information, but perhaps you could ask the person who contacted you, or perhaps you already have the answer to that. I am continuing to have a difficult time blaming any deaths, directly or *indirectly*, on the 24 hour lupron. (My primary vet only prescribes the depot, but in discussions with her she asks these same questions.) Not knowing all of the facts.....and using your stated reasoning (or my understanding of what you said); it seems to me as though the deaths were caused by the decision/recommendation of a *veterinarian* to perform the three surgeries when s/he might just as well have recommended increasing the lupron dose or changing the type of lupron being used.
