From: [log in to unmask] Subject: Deaf Ferret Deafness in ferrets is not too uncommon...most people dont even realize their ferret is deaf until someone points it out to them. In my personal experience though, deaf ferrets are usually a little more "vocal", and play a little too rough...when they "nip" someone or someferret, the person/fuzzy being nipped too hard will make a noise...the deaf ferret cannot hear that cry of pain, so they continue. Deafness isnt too much to worry about, unless the ferret was previously able to hear, and suddenly can't...make sure your ferret doesnt have any debris in his/her ear...or ear mites...that could cause a problem. If you suspect anything out of the ordinary...take your ferret to the vet and have the vet check it out. Might be something as little as some wax in the ears! Also, when you go to pick up your ferret, make sure they can see you... don't want to startle the poor thing, since it can't hear you....When I went to wake mine up, I'd wiggle their hammock a little bit, so they could feel some vibration and knew it was time to come out and play. When I went to pick them up, I usually stomped my foot...I made the mistake of sneaking up on Mojo one time, and she was so startled her head did a 180 and she clamped onto me like a lobster! Just remember, your ferret is very unique and special :) -valerie ===== ~*~*~ VALERIE ~*~*~ ,',', __ \ `'`,/ \ ()o=; `'`','`/ . \/ / ( / \" / \(_ \(_ ~*`~*`FERRETS RULE~`*~`* Missing Noodles + Rosie at the Rainbow Bridge [Posted in FML issue 4563]
