Just some airline clarifications... Other airlines (domestic) that accept live cargo: Delta airlines (Their DASH service is the best for transporting animals!) and Continental, with their Counter to Counter service. American Airlines has never allowed ferrets in-cabin. Only Delta and, I believe the regional carrier, Midwest, IS the other airline I couldn't think of in my earlier post, that allow ferrets in-cabin. Quantas, United, and Air New Zealand, code-share all live freight from Australia and New Zealand. One might think they are shipping on one airline, but 90% of the time, they will be on a United Airlines aircraft. I used to import New Zealand ferrets and then redistribute them around the U.S. I learned a lot about shipping animals. Much of it went out the door after 9/11. With the changing flying climate, it is always best to check with your selected airline BEFORE making any plans....and, understand that 99% of airline employees have no clue as to what the airline's policies are about ferrets....so really pin them down and get permissions in writing to cover your bases. Also..ALL airlines require a health certificate, issued within 10 days of the flight. Don't forget this detail....it could wreck some travel plans if overlooked!
