My ferret, Frankie is sick and the vet isn't sure whats wrong with her. I need some advice. Frankie is a female spayed 5 yr old ferret. A couple months ago she started getting sores on her upper back (not her tail). She also got less active and began loosing weight. The vet though she might have an adrenal problem and prescribed some antibiotics for the sores on her back. The antibiotics helped a little, by controlling the sores, and her weight went back to normal, but the sores never completely disapeared. When we tried to take her off of the medicine after 2-3 weeks, she got sick again. We took her to a different vet who did a skin biopsy, but couldn't find anything. We visited the first vet again and began giving Frankie medicine for the possible adrenal problem. It worked somewhat, but we were giving her twice the normal dosage for any effects (those being control, not improvement). Also the hair that had been shaven off her back never grew back, but she wasn't loosing any other hair. Three days ago, we finally decided to give her surgery to check out her adrenal gland. The vet said Frankies adrenal glands were healthy. He found some small tumors on her pancreas and removed them. Frankie is curently still recovering from her surgery. She has a lot of new sores on her back since we haven't been giving her the adrenal medicine. The vet is doing a biopsy on the tumors, but it doesn't seem that they would be what was causing her symptoms. Does anybody know what could possibly be ailing my ferret? Any advice would be much appreciated. [Posted in FML issue 4520]
