It's also been useful for us when the problem is retained tissue which can't be removed any further, ones who aren't up to surgery, etc. BTW, for anyone who needs the following sets of info: there are some GREAT posts Jerry Murray first wrote for the FHL which were officially carried to the FML (and thus are in both sets of archives) on additional meds for complications for those ferrets who can't have surgery: things like Propecia for prostate problems, Procrit for anemia, etc. Both the FML and FHL Archives are TREASURE CHESTS I spend a huge amount of time there or in the crit refs at http://www.ferretcongress.org/. They can be found at http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/ Archives of the Ferret Health List (from both past Yahoo site and current SmartGroups site) http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/ferret-search.html Archives of the Ferret Mailing List Bill wrote: >[Moderator's note: We have no data other than those given on this >list --and that make it very hard to judge. Over the life of the FML many things on many people have been heard and it is ALWAYS best to use a grain of salt anytime accusations arise and to try to learn more before deciding. I have NO idea what is going on, only a few folks' take on it, but having been involved with the FML since its planning stage I can tell you that often enough things look different from different perspectives. As is so typical for you, Bill, you have said a very wise thing. Air cleaners: we use three of a hepa filter type which are called something like Envroncaire and swear by it. It's also one of the only ones our allergist considers to be excellent and it doesn't create ozone (unlike ionization air cleaners) which can damage lungs. The ferrets not only don't mind them but like to play with the draft. We've had them for many years and have never had a ferret accident with either of the two styles we own. (BTW, one of our ferrets is one who over-reacts to squeeky toys so we know we've got a sensitive-ears one.) Okay, we are trying scents on fabric and on leather, and wafting them at the ferrets. This way we HOPEFULLY will find some scents they dislike which don't damage clothing and will use those on my shoes and pants leg bottoms to dissuade ferrets from being too close to my shoes and braces so that I can got some things done better without being a risk to them. Still collecting scent ideas. So far: mints and Bitter Apple to try. Looking for smells they dislike which won't smell bad on a human... Hmmm, I wonder about Pediapred... LOL!
