I wonder about this myself.  My Miss Delilah, who was a sweety pea,
would literally try to tear my hand apart when I used a squeaky toy.
She didn't try to take the toy, she would try to bite me.  If I moved
the toy to the other hand, she would still attack the hand that held it
when it "cried."
 
Most of my ferrets would only come to a toy, maybe stare at me squeaking
it.  But Miss DD would just go nuts.
